The 2023 Volkswagen Atlas: It's a lot of SUV for the money

When Volkswagen designed the 2023 VW Atlas, they had big ambitions in mind. They wanted plenty of room for families. They wanted to provide that room in a mid-size space. They wanted families to be able to choose seating for five or as many as seven. They also wanted to make sure there was room for cargo and that everyone would be comfortable. Atlas Performance

For 2023, Volkswagen gives you a choice of two very capable engines in the new VW Atlas. One is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 235 horsepower. The other choice is a 3.6-liter V6 that can generate 276 horsepower, and both engines work with an 8-speed automatic. You can choose the VW Atlas equipped with front-wheel drive or go for more traction with available all-wheel drive.

Atlas Towing capacity 

The new VW Atlas at Volkswagen of Union in Union NJ can tow as much as 5,000 pounds when the Atlas is properly equipped. By that we mean that our customers in Newark and Kenilworth, NJ would be running the V6 engine along with the Volkswagen towing package. If you choose a V6 that doesn't include the towing package, or if you go with any four-cylinder model, the maximum towing capacity is 2,000 pounds.

Atlas Fuel economy

At a time when high fuel prices are getting everyone's attention, it's nice to know that, even with all its interior room, the VW Atlas can still transport your family without an excessive number of trips to the gas station. With the four-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive, the VW Atlas can give you 21 MPG in the city and up to 25 MPG on the highway. The V6 engine delivers 18 MPG in the city and up to 24 MPG on highways.

Atlas Interior

You can get a new VW Atlas with two rows that seat five or three rows that can seat as many as seven. In the three-row variation, you can select the available second-row captain's chairs and your maximum seating capacity would be six. Seats are comfortable and supportive in the front row and even for taller people. The second row is roomier than you might expect and real leather upholstery is an available option.

Atlas Cargo space

In back of the third row of the new VW Atlas you'll find 20.6 cubic feet of space. Fold those rear seats down and cargo room increases to 55.5 cubic feet. Fold the back two rows down and you'll be working with a generous 96.8 cubic feet of space. All those stats are among the best that you'll find on any mid-size SUV.

Atlas Infotainment technology

Families in Edison and Elizabeth, NJ will get a 6.5-inch touchscreen standard or they can opt for an available 8-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™ and a six-speaker stereo are standard features in the new 2023 Volkswagen Atlas. Also standard are an 8-inch digital gauge cluster, push-button start and keyless entry. A three-zone automatic climate control system is available along with a 12-speaker stereo and a panoramic sunroof.

Atlas Safety technology
